Sugar Cookies
Does anything say Christmas is coming more than a homemade sugar cookie? We make sugar cookies every year to enjoy and to leave out for Santa. I was given this recipe from a friend years ago and it is our go to recipe. You can find almost everything you need package free in store! We're also having a big baking supply sale this week!
1 c. butter
1c. icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees & then cream butter & sugar
2. Beat in vanilla & egg
3. Add in dry ingredients & mix well
4. Roll out dough on a floured surface until it is 1'4" thick. (If your dough is too warm or sticky place in the fridge for a half hour to chill before rolling)
5. Cut desired shapes and place on a baking sheet
5. Bake 8-10 minutes
Icing:
1.5 c. icing sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla or almond extract
2 tbsp cold water
Instructions: Mix all ingredients in a small bowl until well combined. If it is too thin add a little bit of icing sugar or if it is too thick add a little bit more water to thin out. You can add food colouring if desired.
Spread icing on cookies once they have completely cooled. Top with sprinkles or other topping of choice!
