Simple Recipes with Grated Soap

SUZANNE'S SIMPLE LAUNDRY POWDER

INGREDIENTS:

  • 120g or 1 large cup FAVEUR organic grated household soap
  • 1 cup washing soda (sodium carbonate, not to be confused with sodium bicarbonate/baking soda)
  • 1 cup borax (you can also replace borax with a 2nd cup of washing soda)

PREPARATION:

Put household grated soap and washing soda in food processor and reduce to powder. Wait approx. 5 minutes before removing cover - soap powder can irritate respiratory tract. Transfer to a container with tight lid, add borax and mix well.

HOW TO USE:

Add 1-2 tablespoons (HE washing machine) or 2-3 tablespoons (vertical load washing machine) directly on clothes. Wash as usual. Borax does not dissolve in cold water. For best results, use warm water. RINSE with 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar, which eliminates soap scum and helps reduce static (the smell of vinegar disappears completely after drying).

ADDITIVES

For very dirty laundry, add 1/3 to ½ cup of washing soda to load. For whites, add 1/3 to ½ cup of borax. Sodium percarbonate is a natural oxidizing agent. Add ¼ to load when needed. I do not suggest adding essential oils. Unfortunately, their smell does not last because of their volatile properties.

IMPORTANT WARNING Borax is toxic and can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Keep out of reach of children.

NATURAL STAIN REMOVER for all types of fabric

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 part Faveur organic liquid soap, unscented
  • 1 part water
  • 1 part rhassoul clay

Rhassoul (or ghassoul) clay can be found in middle-eastern food stores, health food stores and online. "Rhassoul" comes from the Arabic word "ghassala", which means to wash. Widely used in hammams, it has amazing washing and purifying properties, and absorbs oils.

PREPARATION:

Mix the 3 ingredients with a spoon and use immediately (the paste will dry and harden within hours).

HOW TO USE:

With the back of a spoon or a silicone spatula, apply a generous layer on stains and set aside for at least 1 day. It can wait until your next laundry day without damaging the fabric. Wash in washing machine or by hand as usual. Repeat if necessary. For better results, apply the paste as soon as the stain is noticed.
