"This week is compost awareness week! Do you compost at home? Composting your food scraps can really cut down on the amount of waste a household generates. There are many ways to cut down on food waste such as only buying the amount of food you need, sharing with others, freezing, taking a food inventory, using up what will spoil soonest, making stock from veggie scraps and so on. Enevitably there will be some waste at the end of all these measures which is where composting comes in! Why start a compost? Unfortunaetly in our local area we do not have a curbside green bin program so at home composting is the way to deal with excess food scraps. Did you know that organic waste in landfills generates methane which is a potent greenhouse gas. By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced. The link below has listed many fantastic resources to help get you started on composting at home.
